Global Satellite Engineering (GSE), a software developer and hardware design and manufacturing firm providing innovative telematics solutions to the satellite communications industry, is excited to announce its recent approval as a DISA EMSS (Enhanced Mobile Satellite Services) partner.
Global Satellite Engineerings’ (GSE’s) GSatMicro [2] , the smallest, self-contained, intelligent Iridium transceiver on the market, has been added to the DISA EMSS Storefront as an authorized device to access the DoD secured network.
Iridium’s 66 low-earth orbiting (LEO) cross-linked satellites operate as a fully meshed network to deliver voice, data, and “netted” (push-to-talk) services from a variety of commercial Iridium and custom devices, including handheld satellite phones, asset trackers and sensors. Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), a Combat Support Agency, is Iridium Communications’ biggest customer that has an ongoing contract in place to provide a fixed-price, with unlimited-use satellite services airtime.
DISA created a program called Enhanced Mobile Satellite Services (EMSS) designed to provide deployed warfighters and partnering agencies with global communications through extra security and user prioritization enhancements to the commercial Mobile Satellite Services (MSS). EMSS includes global handheld voice, data, paging, and sim-less Short Burst Data (SBD) communications.
Enhanced security capabilities include
The added firewalls created by DISA requires any purchased hardware to be configured in a way to make them interoperable and pre authorized to access the military gateway. Once an EMSS partner’s product has been configured and approved to work on the DoD gateway, it gets added to the DISA EMSS Storefront catalog and is dispersed to the many government mission partners. Government mission partners includes the entire DoD and Federal Agencies, U.S. state and local governments, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, NATO elements and other eligible foreign governments.
Countless opportunities open up with the approval of the GSatMicro being provisioned to interoperate on the DoD gateway. In addition, the DISA Storefront creates exposure along with solution credibility to the vast government customer marketplace. This allows your government customers to focus on developing and receiving the most effective application, analytics and service and not be overly hindered by satellite airtime costs.
