Description
The Iridium 9602 SBD transceiver allows SMS-like messages to be transmitted from any location on the surface of the earth, eliminating reliance on GSM network coverage. With its miniature size, a whole new range of tracking and/or monitoring possibilities exist.

The 9602 SBD Voyager was developed to control the 9602 SBD transceiver, and incorporates several useful peripherals and interfaces to meet a wide range of applications. These peripherals include an industry-leading GPS, a 3-axis accelerometer, analogue-to-digital (ADC) inputs, digital I/O, an RS232 serial interface and on-board storage memory, all controlled by a powerful microcontroller preloaded with a highly configurable application that meets many application requirements, the simplest being a GPS tracking application, which allows track data to be viewed on a web interface with a Google Maps overlay. Custom applications may be also be developed with relatively low overhead (cost) by re-using core software modules. Please contact us for more information.

The ultra-low power technology allows several years of operation from small, low-cost batteries. Advanced power management also allows approximately 150 transmitted fixes for every 1Wh of battery energy. For example, a 7.4V 2Ah battery (weighing 95g/3.3oz – total solution of 170g) would allow approximately 2200 transmitted fixes. At 4 transmissions per day, this would last 1.5 years.

For basic tracking applications, the controller may be used with only a power supply (eg. battery pack) and GPS + SBD antennas (uses active GPS antenna). For more advanced functionality, the controller may be interfaced via its I/O and/or serial interface to customer equipment. Please contact us for custom protocol interface requirements.

The easy-to-use serial interface allows for device configuration, system information retrieval (time, current GPS position, time of transmission, etc), and the ability to send and receive text messages. The I/O interface allows remote port manipulation and port monitoring. Optionally, one I/O may be configured as a dedicated panic switch which when closed will increase the GPS reporting rate as required, while indicating a “panic state” in the message contents. The 9602VG-D15 model is suitable for OEM use and does not include an enclosure.

NOTE: This device is supported by GSatTrack, but NOT SOLD by GSE. Please see the manufacturer for purchasing options.
